Filters

Filters are an essential component of any data visualization platform. Being able to parse through large collections of Assets and Events is critical for managers and those looking to convert their data into real, nominal ROI. Filters in the portal can be applied to Assets and Events in the List Panel and Details Panel for parsing purposes, and they can be applied as conditions on Alerts in order to create smarter automated processes.

Filters for List Items

Users will encounter lists throughout the interface, and in many of those lists, users will have the option to Search and Filter the elements in the list. This helps narrow down extensive lists to the specific information users want to see.

Assets have Filters in each of the Notification tabs, and the current available Filter option for those tabs is to Filter only the entries whose Visibility toggle is on.

Alert Filters

Alert Filters can be applied during the Add Alert process in order to narrow down the triggering conditions for Events and reduce the number of notifications and messages created.

  • Date
The Date Filter allows users to program the Alert to only check for the triggering Event on specific dates. To specify more than one date, click the + box to the right of the Date after selecting each individual date.
  • Date Range
The Date Range Filter allows users to program the Alert to only check for the triggering Event during the specified date range. This Filter can be applied in addition to other filters, including the Date Filter in order to, for example, program the Alert to look for the Triggering event during the entire month of August, 2029, and on the 3rd of July, 2025, the 18th of February, 2028, and the 9th of May, 2029.
  • Day
The Day Filter allows users to program the Alert to only check for the triggering Event on specific days of the week. The most common use of this type of Filter is to set the Alert Event to one of the many initiation triggers (Ignition On, Motion Start, Exit Fence) for the organization’s days off. Setting an Exit Fence SMS Alert for Saturdays, for example, using a Geofence that encircles the parking facility, can inform managers of potential theft of Assets.
  • Fence
The Fence Filter can be applied to any Alert triggering Event, and is different than an Enter Fence or Exit Fence Event. The Fence Filter allows users to program the Alert to only check for the triggering Event if it occurs inside or outside of a specific Geofence. Users will be required to select Inside or Outside and identify a Geofence that exists in the portal to set this Filter.
  • I/O
I/O Filters are advanced level management Filters, and work with the Asset’s I/O Pins and Values. The Filter can be set so that Alerts only check for triggering events if the I/O Pin in question has a specified value, or if the I/O Pin in question’s value changes in some way. Each of the variables in the I/O Filter are drop-down menus to choose
    • Pin
Select the I/O Pin that will dictate the Filtering condition
    • Condition
Select the function against which the Filter will check the value of the I/O Pin
      • Equal to not equal to
      • Greater than less than
      • Greater or equal less or equal
      • Changes to Changes by Changes by %
    • Value
Indicate the Value that will satisfy the condition of the Filter
  • Speed
The Speed Filter allows users to program the Alert to only check for the triggering Event when the Speed associated with the reported position exceeds the indicated value.
  • Time
The Time Filter allows users to program the Alert to only check for the triggering Event during a specific range of time. The most common example is for the Filter to be set to only trigger the Alert if the Event occurs during non-business hours.
  • Week
The Week Filter allows users to program the Alert to only check for the triggering Event on specific weeks. Each week is displayed in the calendar selection tool and will reference itself by number.

Visibility Filters

Visibility Filters primarily allow users to toggle visibility and de-clutter the interface and focus on the important information first. To toggle Visibility Filters, click the Visibility Toggle next to the Asset, Asset Group, Geofence, Place, Journey, or Trip whose visibility you wish to toggle on or off. A Visibility Toggle with a line through it indicates that the Object next to it has its visibility toggled off.

History Mode Range Filters

The Filters in History Mode dictate the date range of the visible data, and will automatically update the interface to reflect the indicated range. These date filters will also affect the logs in each Asset’s Details Panel by restricting each reported position and Event to only display the ones that occurred during the filter period.

Presets

  • 1h (1 Hour) - displays the most recent hour of data
  • 24h (24 Hours) - displays the most recent 24 hours of data
  • 7d (7 Days) - displays the most recent 168 hours of data
  • 1m (1 Month) - displays the most recent 720 hours of data

Custom Date Range

The Custom date range filter allows users to specify (using a calendar selection tool) a begin and end date and time. Leaving the end date blank will retrieve all data from the begin date forward. Leaving the begin date blank will pull all available data reported before the end date.

Filters in Reports

A number of reports have Filters that narrow the data included in the report.

Geofence

This filter allows users to specify that they only wish to see Assets that are inside or outside of a specified Geofence (selected from a drop-down menu). Geofence filters can be found on the following Reports:

  • Asset Location Report
  • Asset Movement Report

Place

This filter allows users to specify that they only wish to see Assets that are near or not near a specified Place (selected from a drop-down menu). Place filters can be found on the following Reports:

  • Asset Location Report
  • Asset Movement Report

Timeframe

Users can specify a number of days, hours, minutes, and seconds from the present time and narrow data to only that which fell in that time frame. Timeframe filters can be found on the following Reports:

  • Asset Movement Report
